WE'RE MOVING!

Well, we as in Mama, Papa, and me are not moving. But my blogging efforts are moving to an integrated Sanders family blog. All the good stuff you see here has already been incorporated into that blog. And new posts will be (and already have been) made only there.

So come visit us all at

http://sanderses.wordpress.com.

See you there!
Love,

December 2008

Sadly, one of the biggest things for me this year has been the loss of my grandpa--AKA Popo--on December 13th. I'm trying to write down my special memories of him so I can remember them always. Here are a few (and if anyone out there has any to add, please leave a comment to help me out):
· Going out to eat Mexican food on Saturday nights with Mama, Papa, Mimi, and Popo. I'd always get cheese quesadillas. I'd also usually fill up on corn chips first. And want to run around looking at the colorful chairs. Mimi, LeeLee, Mama, and Papa and I ate there after Popo died, and I sure missed Popo.
· Sitting in Popo's hospital bed eating snacks with his arm around me. Popo spent most of that time resting or trying to kiss my head. I spent my time developing a strong affection for Spongebob Squarepants.
· Running through the curtains at the Breman Home and saying “wooo” like a ghost. Everyone else was talking to each other, but Popo answered with “wooo” and a laugh.
· Once, LeeLee told me that she was going to go back to Popo’s and spend the night. Here is how she remembers our conversation: Ramsay: “no, Uncle Beej.” Alecia: “That’s right. Eventually, I will go back to Uncle Beej, but right now, I’m going to go to Popo.” Ramsay: “Popo sick.” Alecia: “Yes, Popo is sick. How does that make you feel?” Ramsay (in a cheery voice): “Better.” Ramsay was right – he was feeling better than Popo right then. :)
· Popo repeatedly tried to convince me to try ice cream. I never took him up on this. I'm sure I'll be baffled by that some day. But I still don't see the appeal. Give me goldfish anyday over that stuff.
· For me, visiting Popo in Hospice meant not only seeing him, but also a visit to their awesome play room, which has a Thomas the Tank Engine singalong video (Mama thinks prospective parents should be challenged to listen to 30 minutes of Thomas singalong songs to be sure they're really up for the joys ahead) and eating Skittles, aka "circles." I love the "S" on the skittles.
· The courtyard at Jewish home: Little girl statue, fish pond and playground that made sounds and the special swing made for wheelchairs. Also pushing Papa in a wheelchair down the hall.

December 2007

Hello everybody! I'm doing all kinds of things now at 20 months old. I like to do a nifty dance, sort of a Flashdance-style retro-aerobic studderstep when I hear music I like. My musical tastes vary, but current faves are Dan Zanes, Ella Jenkins, and They Might Be Giants (check out their kids page--what wacky fun guys!). My favorite song to sing is Old MacDonald: I chime in with the ei-ei-o and with animal sounds (of which I've mastered quite a repertoire). I chat a lot, and sometimes Mama and Papa actually understand me. Words I use include up, down, hot, cold, a variety of colors and shapes, cereal (yee-yee), yoghurt (vo-vo), water (va-va), milk (mea-uh'), apple (which I prounouce perfectly, and the sauce of which is likeunto crack cocaine for me), bread (baah, which to Mama and Papa sounds identical to bath, one of my favorite activities of all, and to sheep sounds), cracker (O, kaki, or elmo, depending on vintage), bed, night-night, all the relevant body parts, poop, away, shoes, socks, tie (I really like Papa's ties. I like to pull them off the hangar and hold them to my neck to. I also have a special "tie dance," mainly waving two ties around madly, accompanied by uproarious giggling). The most exciting word I've learned is "no." I got a handle on that just after Thanksgiving, when I was in Texas visiting Mo-mo and Uncle Norwood with Mama. Wow what power! I've taken a shining to letters and as of last month can recite the alphabet (still working on some pronounciation issues, tho). I like identifying them in licence plates, cereal boxes, and of course books. In the early mornings, when I babble, it sounds something like this: "Mama....mmm....Papa...mmm...L M N O P!...." I've given nice new names to most of my family, and I like to talk about how Mama, Papa, Mimi, Popo, Momo, Uncle, Leelee, Beej, Deedee, Aloo, Pooh, and Lee have cars. Even more fun is asserting that 'Amo and Mumyum do NOT have cars. I'm a big fan of purées, and while I also adore bread and crackers (and would chaw on bacon till the moocows come home), I'm not very interested in exploring "adult" food. I think Mama and Papa are a little disappointed that I won't even try a taste of pasta or nice soft veggie cubes. (They do a good job of trying not to show it, but I can tell--we babies are telepathic with that sort of thing.) Popo (Grandpa Marty), however, is very up front about his disappointment that I still wont taste ice cream. He's been promised that he can be the one to introduce it to me, but so far I've refused to try it. These people need to relax! I'll get there in my own sweet time.

Month-a-Rama:

June: I got my first milk mustache (actually its a yoghurt 'stash). I also had my first enjoyable encounter with a swimming pool (at Mimi and Popo's development). I took Papa to the Zoo for Fathers' Day (where I pushed around some goats at the petting zoo, stared down the gorillas, and had a blast riding a baboon.

July: My Che phase. Also my introduction to iPods (thank you Uncle Norwood).

August: I went to a peacemaking conference with Mama and Papa in Abiquiu, New Mexico. That's where I wore my first cool shades and got my first sunburn (well, more of a pinkish glow). Afterwards, in Santa Fe, we met up with Deedee and Aloo (greats aunt Donna and unce Alec) as well as Momo (Grandmalee). After an interesting drive from Santa Fe to Lubbock, I had my first encounter with Barney. I'm still shaking. When I got back to Atlanta, I got to visit with Aloo and Pooh, who were in town to see Mumyum (Greatgrandmommy). I like Auntie Pooh (Papa's cousin Elise).

September: My first day of school! I started to go to Oglethorpe Presbyterian Preschool two mornings a week. Somewhere here is a picture of Papa taking me to my second day of school (which by the way I really really like). I also got to meet another "Lil' Cousin:" Aidan Susser is Papa's cousin Camilla's son, and he was in town for Papa's cousin Celia's wedding. I dig my relatives!

October: Mama and Papa left me for two weeks to go to Iran. You can see that blog at http://presbiran.blogspot.com/. Anyway, Momo came to be with me, and we had a riproaring time. I was happy to see Mama and Papa again when they got back (so were Momo and Mimi and Popo and everyone else). We were a pack of lions for Halloween (although I think Mama could have used some help with the make-up. She looks more like a kitty cat or a mouse than a scary lion like me).

November: Our friends Eric and Kiera and Maddie came to visit from Colorado. Papa had some deep comversations with Maddie about geopolitics. I stayed out of the fray. This month also, Mama bought me my first car. It's an older model--nothing fancy, no airbags, but a snazzy red and yellow finish. Deedee and Aloo and 'Amo Ian came into town to celebrate Thanksgiving with us. Unfortunately, Mimi was sick, but Mama, Papa, Popo, Deedee, Aloo, 'Amo, Mumyum and I had a delicious time together. And then we went to the aquarium; I liked the graceful jellyfish and the barking sea lions best.

December: Just after Thanksgiving Mama and I went to Texas to be with Momo and Uncle Norwood. We had a really nice time in Lubbock and then drove to Austin (hey adults out there--being in a carseat for that long is not my idea of a vacation!) where we officially celebrated Uncle's graduation (oops, I mean "Dr. Uncle"). Actually, Momo, Mama, and Uncle Norwood's friend Kerry got to go to the graduation festivities while I slept (or didn't...). And then there's Christmas. I'll be putting some comments about that up momentarily.

Best wishes to you gentle readers, and have a fantastic 2008!
